Why Your Last 10 Reps Matter Most [WRAP 154]
Hey Reader, I had an interesting realization at jiu-jitsu class this week that I think applies to creators, entrepreneurs, and really anyone building something meaningful. Before we get started, I wanted to tell you that my friend Darrell Vesterfelt is hosting a free online summit for creators who are building their businesses from $1 Million to $10 Million. Darrell has filled the summit with people who've cracked the code on business growth and convinced them to share their secrets with you. It's all happening at the Boomtown Growth Summit from November 13-14. I'll be there in the chat, learning right along with you. See you there! ๐ก One Big Idea: The Last 10 RepsThis week I was getting turned into a pretzel by a white belt, which as a blue belt is a bit frustrating, but it got me thinking. Even though I've been practicing jiu-jitsu for four years, I haven't been consistent this year. And this guy has been coming in 3-4 times a week for the same amount of time. I can hold my own, but his recent commitment beats my longer-term practice. This got me thinking about how this principle shows up everywhere in creative work and business:
The truth is, while experience and accumulated knowledge matter, what you're doing RIGHT NOW often matters more. This can feel harsh โ after all, shouldn't all our past work count for something? But it's pretty liberating when you think about it. Here's why:
So the next time you're feeling weighed down by past performance or intimidated by others' accumulated experience, remember: what matters most is what you're doing right now. Your next 10 reps could be the ones that change everything. Additional Readingโ๏ธ Creator Corner: Newsletter Fatigue? Not gonna lie, there's real newsletter fatigue out there, both from readers and writers. Hopefully youโre not tired of the WRAP though ๐ But I'm still very bullish on newsletters as a key asset for creators, businesses, and movements. The hard truth is most newsletters just aren't unique enough. People think a Friday link dump is interesting when they have never proven to be interesting as a person. Or people who think they can go on unrelated tangents every week without a core philosophy to align with. I get it, writing a newsletter is challenging and not every edition is going to be a banger. But there are many who over-rely on AI or drop their Twitter bookmarks on readers without a key message to tie everything together. They're not the "money tree" from the past 3-4 years though, so lots of people will quit. If you stick with your email list though, you'll be in a great position next time we hit a newsletter boom. So don't quit your newsletter (if you have one). It's a long game. ๐ One Video to Watch: Selling a $5,000 CourseI've talked about Darrell many times on the WRAP, most recently in the contrast thinking edition. He was just on Nathan Barry's podcast helping Nathan sell his high-ticket, $5,000 course. Darrell is one of the best people in the world with course marketing, and this is a legit masterclass in positioning, sales, building an offer, and much more. IMO the best part is between 9-25 minutes, but the whole show is great. โIf you're interested in learning more from Darrel and his network of high growth entrepreneurs and founders, I highly recommend the Boomtown Summit he's hosting next week, November 13-15. The sole purpose of the summit is helping creator businesses scale from $1million to $10million in revenue. The Boomtown Summit is completely free and I can tell you that everything Darrell does is driven by a passion to help entrepreneurs like you grow businesses you love, and make the money your content deserves.
